The five islands of Polillo, plus its ocean, is one of the most rich and diverse ecologic zones in the Philippines. Facing the Pacific directly to the east, and the mighty Sierra Madre mountain ranges to our backs in the west. Our islands serve as rest and shelter to migratory birds. Different species of tuna traverse our seas, while on our corals and sea grasses live an assortment of marine life.

I believe most of us think of the beauty and serenity of the island, clear sky, fresh air, as well as a comfortable home, some good memories, and childhood friends.
At this point in our growth, however, our island is not entirely healthy.
Some species are at risk of extinction, water quality in most streams is impaired, and many rivers run low and some are gone and leaving us with less water to meet our needs.
The Health Of Our Island
Halos araw-araw we seem to hear of yet another problem affecting the environment.
At ano-anong mga problema! – pollution, illegal logging, illegal fishing, climate change, the destruction of our forests and other wild habitats, the decline and extinction of native species of animals and plants, including the natives of Polillo Island…..at marami pang iba.
Sa ngayon halos tayong lahat ay alam na natin that these threats exist and that humans have caused them.
Many of us are very worried about the future of our Island and unless we can find a way of solving the problems we have made, then the environment will suffer even more.
Ito ay nakalulungkot pero hindi pa huli ang lahat. Every one of us, bata man o matanda, we can do something to help slow down and reverse some of the damage.
Hindi natin dapat i-asa na lang ang lahat nang problem-solving sa gobyerno, we all have a responsibility for our environment.

Paano Naman Natin Pangangalagaan Ang Ating Kalikasan?
Example:
Learn to use our natural resources which include air, freshwater, forests, wildlife, farmland and seas without damaging them.
As populations grow and lifestyles change, we must keep the island in a good condition so that future generations will have the same natural resources that we had.
